Admissions

AdmissionsPg2.JPG

The HCMS Admissions Process is designed to help families gain a deeper understanding of Montessori education and explore its suitability for the whole family. We always encourage and welcome you to ask questions during the entire admissions process. Our goal is to answer all of your questions and provide important information about HCMS values, philosophy, and practices.

We strongly encourage interested parents to read about Maria Montessori. Excellent choices are:

  • Maria Montessori: A Biography by Rita Kramer
  • Montessori: The Science Behind the Genius by Angeline Stoll Lillard
  • The Montessori Controversy by John Chattin-McNichols

Step 1:

The first step in our process is the informational meeting and tour of the school. This enables parents/guardians to discover "who we are and why we are." It is important to know our values, philosophy, and practices in educating children and see how they coincide with your values and philosophies. A classroom visit in the appropriate program allows you to further observe program dynamics and activities. Finally, we ask you to provide any information or records to help determine if the student will benefit from attending HCMS. Please note, HCMS may request records from schools previously attended. To set up your tour, please call for an appointment at 830.229.5377.

Step 2:
We encourage you to discuss as a family whether Montessori and HCMS are the right fit for your child. If so, complete the Admission Application and send it to the school with the non-refundable $50.00 application fee.

Step 3:
Upon receipt of the Admission Application, HCMS will contact you to schedule a student interview and observation:

  • Toddler (18 months-3 years) and Early Childhood candidates (3-6 years) participate in a one-half to one hour long visit in the applicable classroom.
  • Elementary age candidates (6-12 years) spend one to two full days in an Elementary classroom.

Step 4:
Following the completed observations, all applicable paperwork is submitted to the HCMS Admissions Committee for the acceptance decision. Admission decisions are based on an evaluation of the child's school visit, school transcripts, and parent/guardian interview. Admission decisions are communicated via phone or in writing.

Step 5:
Families may apply for financial assistance after receiving notice of acceptance of their child. Please see our Financial Assistance page for more information.

Step 6:
Along with notice of acceptance, the enrollment contract is presented for signature. Upon receipt of the signed contract and non-refundable enrollment deposit, the child is considered enrolled.

Step 7:
If a place is not immediately available in the child's program, the child will be placed in a waiting pool. Students are chosen from the waiting pool as spaces become available.

HCMS admits students of any economic and social class, racial or ethnic heritage, religious belief, and family structure.
